Since its founding in 1873, the Institute offers ophthalmic Somain, on the same site, the possibilities for diagnosis and treatment exclusively specializing in eye diseases and surgery.

Located geographically at the center of the triangle Valenciennes-Douai-Cambrai on the site of the mining area with high population concentration, the hotel is easily accessible and fast.

The institution receives mainly surgical patients referred to in the context of chronic conditions diagnosed for elective surgery. It also receives patients referred or addressed in the context of unsettled conditions is urgently on (retinal detachment or glaucoma) or actual emergency (traumatic pathology, acute glaucoma, infection ....).

The specific situation of a single-discipline brings together on one site all the elements necessary for the diagnosis, evaluation, treatment and monitoring of eye disease which is essential given the high demand for specialized equipment for activities .

In addition, the sub specialization allows surgeons to offer our patients a treatment of more suitable.

  • The Institute of Ophthalmic Somain is, and aims to remain a pole of reference ophthalmology. To this end, the main thrust of the facility consists of two main issues: Responding to the insufficient supply of care in ophthalmology in our region by perpetuating and expanding the activities of the clinic.
  • Continue our efforts to continuously improve quality to allow support for our patients even more optimal and close to their needs.

Technical platform:

The technical facilities of the clinic brings together:

  • A surgical intervention consisting of three rooms and a preparation room and waking. These rooms are high-tech intervention: aseptic, with air conditioning, air handling system at constant flow.
  • Including an operating room dedicated to the eyelid surgery with a procedure room, a preparation room and recovery room.
  • A procedure room dedicated to refractive surgery.
  • A central sterilization.

The party hosting includes:

  • The outpatient department (6 places).
  • The inpatient ward (17 beds).

The clinic can offer a special hospital room with direct dial telephone, television can be used.

Visits are allowed from 10:30 to 20h daily. Indoor parking.

Patients may, on medical advice, enjoy the days of outpatient surgery, in a separate area.

All buildings of the hotel are easily accessible with roads laid out especially for the disabled.

An additional parking has recently been built within the walls of the facility to enable patients, their carers and their visitors to go to the clinic with ease.
