The gene

Frequently the patient or the patient has trouble defining his discomfort, or at least to analyze it. It is the encounter and dialogue with the surgeon who will allow him to put into words his impressions. The quality of this dialogue is essential in this type of approach.

The patient consults because it considers that his eyes makes him look old, tired or sad.

LOSS OF radiance is frequently due to the appearance of the eyelids POCKETS. Popular belief considers that the term applies only to pocket the lower eyelids. In fact, they may also relate to the two upper eyelids. This term refers to a handheld excess tissue (skin, muscle or fat essentially). It is especially in the morning before the mirror, the signs are the most visible of all that there is a lack of sleep.

Contrary to popular belief, the pockets are not unique to the elderly even if they are actually more common with age. By cons they often look older. They can occur in middle age and if most effected (s) are between 40 and 70, expressed a lot of requests from the thirties until much later in life.

In some cases it is juvenile or family pockets, especially the lower pockets. They can be present from 20 to 30 years. They often cause discomfort important aesthetic resented by the patient, especially since there are other cases in the family. The operating results of such pockets are good and durable, so it is not necessary to wait several years before considering surgery all that there is a real embarrassment felt by the patient, a request the patient and pockets within a procedure.

Pockets (above and below) are most often bilateral, rarely unilateral. As against them are frequently asymmetric, predominant on one side. For the sake of symmetry and quality of result it will usually be processed simultaneously on both sides.

Another misconception is to think that cosmetic surgery of the eye mainly concerns women. In practice more and more men are operating with very good results. This answers an important sociological trend and recent cosmetic care for men.

The different aspects

Aesthetic discomfort felt by the patient or the patient may correspond to different aspects that can be corrected.

1. The upper pockets

They are due to excess skin, muscle or fat in varying proportions from one patient to another. Analysis provides a rigorous pre-operative treatment tailored to a satisfactory result. Gradually, the party makeup of the eyelid is covered by the pocket. In some cases it can even touch the eyelashes or overlap. The field of view than the patient can then be cut resulting in a partially functional impairment associated with the aesthetic embarrassment.

2. The lower pockets

They have the same components as possible above the pockets. That is to say of the skin, muscle and fat. Is the proportion of these three components determines the operative technique. If excess skin and muscle predominates, the operative technique should involve the skin. In this case there is usually lower eyelid folds more or less thick depending on their composition. These folds may occur at rest or during the term especially the smile and laughter.

Sometimes it's the excess fat that predominates (as common in young). It then results in a bulge or a wheel base of the lower eyelids wrinkle-free or with little folds of skin. If excess fat is predominant, surgical treatment may spare the skin and muscle and processing will be done by the back of the lower eyelid. So there is no scar skin in this case.

The discomfort of the patient is not always proportional to the size of the pockets and some patients are bothered by moderate pockets but present. Therefore the indication for surgery, consider technical factors but also psychological. Patients with less severe pockets are not less satisfied with their surgical outcome when the indication for surgery is good.

3. Abnormalities of skin quality

They can be associated with pockets or represent the main discomfort expressed by the patient. They do not match but an excess tissue abnormalities in skin texture. They must be identified and are, where possible, specific treatment involved.

4. Wrinkles

They are often associated with pockets. Depending on their nature and their location, they are treated simultaneously or in a second time using different techniques including surgery, surface treatments, botulinum toxin or fillers.

5. Dark circles

Rings may be associated with pockets and are a specific treatment.

Maintenance preoperative

An interview with a qualified surgeon is essential to express the discomfort felt by the patient and determine treatment options. It includes a medical examination and exchange to better understand the patient's request and explain the advantages and limitations of different techniques possible.

The surgeon will examine the technical aesthetic of discomfort and propose a treatment plan suited to each patient.

If an intervention is planned after reflection:

  • A preoperative assessment is consistently applied,
  • A review of anesthetic pre planned
  • Specific information issued in writing and
  • A detailed estimate provided to the patient
