Myopia is a disorder most often associated vision in one eye too long.
What is myopia ?

Your blurred vision, called myopia, results in good near vision but poor distance vision.
Myopic: You see much further and blur up close.
This defect is due to the fact that your eye is "too long". Indeed, a myopic eye in general than the standard (23 mm long).
The distance between your cornea of your retina is too large.
As a result, the image of a distant object through your lens, so both sides of lens, and is projected not on the retina but in front of it (see diagram).

What gets your retina is a diffuse reflection of the image. The distant object is perceived by the retina blur the blurred image that transmits to your brain.
Your eye is too long. The image of a distant tree is projected in front of the retina. The tree is unclear.
Myopia is hereditary ?
Your blurred vision is mainly due to your genes. There are families of myopic, sometimes with a generational leap.
But genetics is not everything. Other contributing factors are discussed:
- Environmental factors: screen work, school work, the number of years of work seeking near vision (computer screen, reading, precision work ...).
- The racial factor: Asian people are more concerned with myopia.
How will change my myopia ?
Myopia usually appears in childhood, around 6-8 years and grows up to 20-25 years. Then it stabilizes.
Wearing regular glasses will not eliminate nearsightedness, but it will have a good vision with correction.
There is another form of myopia, more rarely, the "myopia illness" or "myopia". It gets worse, for its part, throughout life. In this case, the eye continues to grow throughout life, which can cause many complications distended retina, retinal detachment ...
How to evaluate my myopia ?

It is possible to evaluate the importance of your blurred vision in both assessing your visual acuity and determining the correction needed to return to normal vision.
The correction of your nearsightedness with glasses is established test.
When evaluating the necessary correction, it is called in "diopter". The number of diopters is the power of a corrective lens needed to restore good vision.
In assessing visual acuity, it is called in "tenth." It is evaluated by assessing the ability to read letters of progressively smaller, located 5 meters from the eye. Read more letters are smaller, the "tenth" increase.
We can schematically connect these two evaluation techniques by the following correspondence:
- For myopia of - 0.5 diopters, the vision is 5 to 7 / 10.
- For myopia of - 1.50 diopters, the vision is 2 to 4 / 10.
- For myopia of - 2.50 diopters, the vision is 1 / 10.
- For myopia of - 3.00 diopters, the vision is less than 1 / 10.
For myopia of - 6.00 diopters, the vision is less than 1 / 20.
How can you correct my myopia ?
Correcting your myopia is intended to change the path of the image so that it converges to the retina.
Different solutions can be proposed: `
- Is the correction is achieved by wearing glasses with a concave glass or contact lenses to repel the image on the retina.
- Is the correction is obtained by changing the curvature of your cornea with an operation performed using a laser.
